New Program Incentives for P-H-M Substitute Teachers

We have great news!  We are implementing new incentives for our loyal subs. You play an important role in our vision of excellence and we want to recognize your contribution to P-H-M.  Here are the new incentives:

  • Effective January 5, 2015, the daily rate for subbing will increase from $65 per day to $70 per day.
  • For every 10 days a sub works between January 5, 2015 and the end of the 2014-2015 school year, they will earn one $70 bonus day of pay. Subs will need to keep track of days worked and turn in a completed form. Here is the form that substitutes will need to complete in order to take part in the Bonus Program: Substitute Bonus Program.
  • In addition, subs who work 50 or more days for P-H-M between January 5, 2015 and the end of the 2014-15 school year will receive an additional $70 bonus.

Substitute teachers are valuable members of the Penn-Harris-Madison community and they are working every day in our schools.

Each Indiana school district is allowed to set their own guidelines for substitute teachers. At Penn-Harris-Madison we require that our substitutes have at least 60 college credit hours in any area of certification. Occasionally we will waive this requirement if the applicant can provide significant documented work or volunteer experiences including name(s) and phone number(s) of immediate supervisor(s) who may be contacted for verification of this information. They would also need to include letters of reference from two P-H-M school administrators.

We will apply for an expanded criminal history check on each applicant and they must hold either a valid Indiana Teaching License or a Substitute Certificate.

Penn-Harris-Madison will now pay substitute teachers $70 per day. Here is a link to the online application.

We require that all substitute teachers attend a mandatory training session in order to be eligible to work in a P-H-M school. Training will be held in the Board Room at the Educational Services Center, 55900 Bittersweet Road, Mishawaka IN 46545 which is just north of Penn High School on Bittersweet Road.

Training will be held on the following dates and times and reservations are not necessary.

February 11, 2015 2:00-3:30 p.m.
March 26, 2015 2:00-3:30 p.m.
April 21, 2015 2:00-3:30 p.m.
May 7, 2015 2:00-3:30 p.m.

Interested applicants should complete a substitute teacher application packet. The packet can be obtained at the Educational Services Center, 55900 Bittersweet Rd., Mishawaka, IN 46545 or you can email Tammy Gizewski, Administrative Assistant for Human Resources to request a packet.
