PHM COVID-19 Important Update (3.24.20)

Tuesday, March 24, 2020

Dear P-H-M Families and Staff,

Today (Tuesday, March 24th) we received notification from the Saint Joseph County Department of Health that a member of the Walt Disney Elementary School community tested positive for the COVID-19 virus. The person is believed to have been exposed Tuesday, March 10th and was present at Walt Disney on March 11th through the 13th. The person experienced mild symptoms and is doing well at home in self-isolation and did not need hospitalization. For privacy reasons, we cannot disclose the identity of the person.

Out of an abundance of caution, anyone who was present at Walt Disney between March 11th through the 13th and experiencing any of the following symptoms: shortness of breath, cough, and fever should stay at home, self-isolate, and contact your medical provider for evaluation and further guidance.

Walt Disney was also a site location for meal pickups from Monday, March 16th through Monday, March 23rd. Because the person at issue was not in the school after Friday, March 13th and was not involved in the distribution of meals, the Health Department believes the risk of exposure from this person to those involved with or picking up meals at Walt Disney is extremely low or non-existent.

We all should be doing our part to slow the progression of this disease. Governor Holcomb’s Shelter in Place Executive Order goes into effect at 11:59 p.m. this evening. Hopefully, with all of us sheltering in place at home, the curve will be flattened sooner rather than later. The goal is to lessen the impact on the healthcare system so that the most sick can receive appropriate care. Let’s all do our part now for the greater good.

Stay home, healthy, and well,
Dr. Jerry Thacker
Superintendent of Schools
