Exceptional Education Program Overview

In the Penn-Harris-Madison School Corporation, the program for students with special needs is called Exceptional Education.

The Exceptional Education department at Penn-Harris-Madison provides high quality services to students with an Individualized Education Plan (IEP).  The Exceptional Education Department strives to empower all students with diverse learning needs through equitable, high-quality education that promotes academic success, personal growth, and full participation in school and community life from preschool through young adulthood.

We envision a school community where every student, regardless of ability, is valued and included, individualized support seamlessly integrates with general education, and
students with disabilities reach their full potential alongside their peers.  The Exceptional Education department at Penn-Harris-Madison meets the needs of students through inclusive practices that foster understanding, respect, and lifelong success for all.

In keeping with Penn-Harris-Madison’s Vision of Excellence, the Exceptional Education Department has an outstanding team of highly qualified professionals who meet the unique needs of all students. Exceptional Education (Special Education) is part of the Learning Division in P-H-M and have a dedicated staff made up of school psychologists, occupational and physical therapists, speech and language pathologists and special education teachers that serve students from the ages of 2 ½ to 22.

Our dedicated multi-disciplinary teams are comprised of special and general education teachers, administrators, school psychologists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, and speech and language pathologists.  Parents are an integral part of P-H-M’s Triangle of Success.  We hold in high regard our relationships with our parents and value their input and collaboration as an essential component of our inclusive education programming.  With the support of our highly qualified multi-disciplinary team members and continuous collaboration with parents, the Penn-Harris-Madison Exceptional Education department is committed to being a state leader in implementing the principle of Least Restrictive Environment (LRE).
